Artist's Statement
Cans ‘n’ Cones, an exhibition of watercolor paintings by artist Sea Monster, combines emotional beer can portraiture, deep-dive ice cream investigations, and figuratively ambiguous landscape narratives. Stemming from a background in figure drawing, Sea Monster has expanded her illustrative exploration to include everyday objects, from beer cans to ice cream cones, inviting viewers into a fantastical world where the boundaries of reality, sexuality, maturity, creepiness, and joy are fluid. Hidden faces and subtle pop culture references serve as vehicles to draw attention to the intricate details within each dreamlike scene. Cans ‘n’ Cones runs from June 9 through July 2, with an artist’s reception on Saturday, June 10th from 6-9pm. The reception will feature raffles, an interactive beverage performance, and prizes! Artist Biography: Sea Monster, née Christine Fulton, is a California-based artist. Co-founder of The Crux Art Collective, she earned a BFA in Printmaking with a concentration in drawing from California State University Chico in 2005. She lives and works in northern California.
