Mulcahy writes about The Monday Funnies:
I plan on showing my pop-artish work, usually based on cartoons and bad advertising, typically with bright colors. This will be a bit of a retrospective since many of these are large canvases, dating back to the 1980s & 90s, along with more recent work in the same vein.
My talk will touch on several areas: the history and significance of the cartoon; its relationship with more formal modes of art; how it relates to my other styles of painting; issues around appropriation; and its current place in the art world.
In reaction to the tragic Ghost Ship fire in Oakland, I will also relate what it was like being a non-famous Bay Area artist living and working often in illegal warehouses.
