Future MONCA: Growing a Northern California Collection November 6–29, 2014
Reception: Thursday November 13, 5-7pm (Panel discussion by area art collectors at 6:30pm)
What makes art collectors collect? Is it passion, personal pursuit or a connection with the artist? This exhibition will provide a glimpse into the lives of six Chico collectors and their potential endowments to the Museum of Northern California Art (MONCA). Keeping true to the museum’s mission of showing northern California artists, reaching north to Oregon, east to Nevada and south to San Jose, this exhibition will demonstrate the diversity of art that the museum will house in the future.
Curated by Reed Applegate, whose initial gift launched the museum, the exhibition pushes boundaries and reaches beyond the Chico borders. Collectors Dorna Andersen, Reed Applegate, Gwen Curatilo, Alan Carrier and Idie Adams, David and Shari Hopper and Richard and Pat Macias have generously loaned artwork from their private collections that could potentially increase the scope of the museum’s artworks.
