Chico News & Review: Then, Now and...?
August 13–September 5, 2021
Reception: Friday, August 27, 6–8pm

From the offices of Chico's free weekly newspaper,
more than 40 years of artifacts and ephemera that have helped shape
the culture and consciousness of Chico.

Speaking truth to power is in the Chico News & Review’s DNA. In fact, Chico’s alternative free newsweekly was born for that very purpose, launched in 1977 by college journalists who took the paper off the Chico State campus, providing news, opinion and arts coverage found nowhere else in the North Valley.

Experience the CN&R from its humble beginnings, through its heady days during the peak of the newspaper industry, to today as its tiny staff puts out a monthly publication and searches for a sustainable model amid a persistent global pandemic and declining print media.

Included in the exhibit are some of the stories, photographs and design that helped shape the culture and consciousness of Chico and Butte County.
