The Sun to Your Back—comprised of woodblocks used for printmaking and wheat-pasted images—tells the metaphorical story of pollitos (young chicks) making the perilous journey to cross the Mexican border into the United States. The time is undisclosed. The desert looks familiar but ominous. Migration is the only hope for survival. Particular vignettes are both stark and beautiful. Immerse yourself in this black and white interpretation of a history that began in the 19th century and continues to this day.
