Artist statement
Currently, my work is focusing in on the shared experience of being a woman. With my work I hope to evoke thoughts of assumed fragility and hidden strength, the push and pull between the social constructs of toughness and tenderness. The interplay of the power to overcome and the power to oppress is important in my works, some pieces being visceral and in your face while others offer a more subversive and subtle experience like that of the undercurrents and unspoken truths of a culture. I hope that my work can share with another the feelings of being seen, and heard, that it might spark thoughts for those without a woman’s perspective that the themes in my work are felt by almost all women. Bio Liz grew up as a multifaceted artist working in painting, drawing, photography and mixed media processes. She found ceramics in 2008 while earning her BFA from West Virginia University.
