Joe Meiser and Michael Arrigo

Joe Meiser is an assistant professor of art at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. He writes, "My interest in sculpture is connected with my acute awareness of the physicality of my existence. Sculpture provides a means for me to solidify my thoughts materially, with a broad range of motions that are often physically challenging. Today nearly anything created (or appropriated) in space qualifies as sculpture. This open-endedness has greatly expanded the tools at my disposal, and I construct object-based sculpture while simultaneously making installations and including performance. Whether my action is the work, or my action produces the work, all of the methods are yoked to a central body of inquiries, so each approach informs the others. Distinctions blur between my work, my life, and the larger world as they flow into a whirlwind of interplay."
Meiser received his MFA at Ohio University in 2006 and his BFA at Northern Kentucky University in 2001. He has exhibited widely including solo shows most recently in 2010 with the Kuehner Gallery (John Burroughs School, St. Louis, MO); Dittmar Memorial Gallery (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL); Ameristar Gallery (Foundry Art Centre, St. Charles, MO); and Viking Union Gallery (Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA).
Michael Arrigo is an associate professor of art at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. He writes: "Most of my recent work begins as simple interactions with my family. I preserve some aspect of these interactions as photos, video or audio snippets and display them in ways that expose the meaning and strangeness immanent in commonplace objects and activities. As an artist I think of myself as a 'tinkerer.' I go into the studio and take ideas, language, electronics—everything—apart to see how it works. I attempt to put these bits and pieces back together in ways that expose underlying structures and unexpected tensions in the fabric of the everyday. I am increasingly interested in making work that reveals rather than conceals my messy process of experimentation in the hope that viewers will enter into the spirit of playfulness and shared discovery."
Arrigo received his MFA and BFA at the Ohio State University in 1990 and 1988 respectively. He has exhibited widely including shows most recently in 2010 with the Valade Art Gallery (Adrian College, Adrian, MI); Yeiser Art Center (Paducah, KY); Loudoun House Gallery (Lexington Art League, Lexington, KY); Flatlanders Gallery (Blissfield, MI); and Toledo Museum of Art (Toledo, OH).
