Natasha Easton

Easton writes:
“Where have all the still lives gone? The way of Jan van Huysum of parrot tulip fame (preserved in the graves of museums)? Or are still lives to bloom, to sit with stately ease again...in the Orient, in the prairie, in the Netherlands, and in Sur America and Africa? In five paintings I have taken objects of beauty—and perhaps desire and power—to capture them in a modern way. Kettles are electric, jewel tones are off kilter, and angles are oblique in my naif surreal take on a traditional exercise. My inspiration is Richard Estes' Michigan Ave with View of the Art Institute (1984).”

Rouben Mohiuddin

Mohiuddin was born in Bangladesh. He has an undergraduate degree in Architecture and Environmental Design from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a graduate degree in Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture. Currently he is an assistant professor at California State University, Chico, and in the past has held positions at the Art Institute of California, Otis School of Art and Design, and the University of California, Los Angeles. He chaired the Interior Architecture program at American Intercontinental University. He has always been interested in extreme social and environmental conditions in which to debate the nature of art and architecture, the future of cities, and changing roles of architects, designers, and artists.

Larry Rutherford

Rutherford writes:
"I have been using a camera to capture what I believe the world looks like for longer than I care to admit. Only in the last ten years or so have I taken the time to study the special relationships between the various components that first make up a camera, and then combine to present my view of a subject. I enjoy the adventure of using light, natural or artificial, to illuminate close-up or macro scenes with shallow depth of field. Hopefully the viewer will see some of what I saw at the moment I released the shutter."

Sisko

Sisko writes:
"Sandwiched between the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Sisko was born in California about 1 mile from the present 1078 gallery. He was affected profoundly by that which stood out and then sealed itself in his memory. Of the thousands of things that have made impressions, Sisko has dealt with just a small portion as themes or projects to explore. 'my current fantasy is something about connection to spirit. since i have no proof of anything i might believe, i decided to have fun with how i beseech, pay homage to, supplicate, express gratitude to and for that which i feel deserves it. so, with malice toward none, that is what i am doing.'

"'i am not an artist! i simply look around me and scratch out impressions of how things strike me. sometimes i use a computer other times i use a stick. i have been doing this most of my life. sometimes i feel empty and that we call a fallow period, then something itches and i am compelled to scratch. there is no reason to paint which is the best reason to paint ( k. haring said that). a good idea is worth at least a shoddy rendition (sisko said that). sisko+impressions=what you get'"
