Levente Sulyok
Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing, Wichita State, Wichita KS
B.A., University of California, Berkeley; M.F.A., Rhode Island School of Design
Levente Sulyok was born and raised in Hungary and moved to the US in 1991. His work has been exhibited in "Night Blooms" at Cirrus Gallery in Los Angeles; at Blue Gum Gallery in Santa Rosa, CA; at the CAA Conference MFA Exhibition, Massachusetts College of Art in Boston; in "ASAPainting" at Sol Koffler Gallery in Providence; in the RISD Museum, Providence; as well as several smaller group shows over the past few years. He has received several awards, and in 2006, was selected to be a finalist for an artist residency at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA.
Sulyok writes: An art-maker from a very young age, I have been influenced by the Socialist Realist movement of the communist bloc and, since living in the U.S., have developed an interest in the history of uniquely 'American' movements such as abstract expressionism, minimalism and conceptual art. My overall practice engages with reconsiderations and transformations of modernist tropes and the redefinition of modernist concepts such as the sublime. I have a continued interested in the nature of the abstract mark, the sublime space, and the minimalist concept of 'universal structures.' These 'universal' notions, as they were defined by high modernism, are often used as structures to build upon highly specific, personal, and idiosyncratic narratives. My current body of work attempts to utilize signifiers from contemporary everyday life such as scaffoldings, outdoor advertising structures, and shipping containers in relationship to modern and contemporary visual and conceptual conventions. Through such investigations, I aim to highlight the relationship between art, advertisement, and an increasingly globalized consumer culture, as well as the ways in which these phenomena relate to cultural ideologies.

Robert Bubp
Associate Professor of Foundations, Painting and Drawing, Wichita State, Wichita KS
B.F.A., University of Georgia; M.F.A., Georgia State University
Robert Bubp has participated in over 40 group and 10 solo exhibitions in the U. S. and internationally and is currently involved in major community-based exhibitions in Salina, KS, and Corpus Christi, TX. He has been awarded multiple grants and professional awards, including the 2005 Kansas Arts Fellowship for interdisciplinary and performance art; his work is held in multiple public and private collections, including Emprise Bank and the Kansas Health Foundation. He is the initiator of the downtown student gallery project, WSU Shift Space.
Bubp writes: Variably using drawing, painting, video, photography, sculpture and installation, my artwork explores the evolution and development of place and space through situations in specific communities. In creating the work I use processes that enact engagement in the urban plan through audience participation and personal investment. I'm intrigued by the possibilities: What will this community look like in 50 or 100 years, who is it for, and who benefits or stands to lose? With each new environment I hope to foster and take part in a dialog about the intersection of urban planning, community, place, and identity.
